Dr. Monica Lepore

Program (Adapted PE), which was implemented in 2006.

“Doc” deeply believes in service learning for students, and provides students with a multitude of enriching volunteer experiences including:

  • WCU Wednesday night children’s Adapted PE program

  • WCU Monday night young adults lifetime fitness program

  • WCU Rammies, Special Olympics Swim Team, Basketball team and soccer team

  • Beast of the East Wheelchair Rugby Tournament

  • Sami Zajac Adapted Dance Camp

  • Camp Abilities PA, Arizona and Canada

 

Dr. Lepore has accumulated a collection of awards for her service in educating students about Adapted Physical Education.  This awards include, but are not limited to, Adapted Physical Education Professional of the Year-American Alliance for Health Physical Education(AAHPERD), Recreation and Dance, National Meritorious Award-American Alliance for Health Physical Education, Recreation and Dance/American Association for Active Lifestyles and Fitness Aquatic Council, Leader of Distinction for Business and Professional Award-Greater West Chester Sunrise Rotary, and Professional Award-Delaware County Down's Syndrome Association. 

 

Her Professional Services include:

  • Chair of the American Association for Active Lifestyles and Fitness (AAALF) Aquatic Council Adapted Aquatics-6 years Secretary of AAHPERD/AAPAR Adapted Physical Activity Council 2 years

  • Adapted Physical Education National Standards (APENS) Committee-7 years, where she helped design national standards and develop a test for the distinction of "Certified Adapted Physical Educator"

Dr. Monica Lepore has been a dedicated member of the Kinesiology Department at WCU since 1983. "Doc" Lepore is a Certified Adapted Physical Educator that teaches Health and Physical Education Teacher Certification (HPETC) majors how to include children with disabilities into physical education and health classes as well as after school sports and aquatics programs. She created and continues to develop the Physical Education for Individuals with Disabilities Minor Program (Adapted PE), which was implemented in 2006.
