  • Provided the credentials and credibility to start a program for people with disabilities at the Central Bucks Family YMCA

  • Provided the credentials and credibility for my personal training business

3. Where are you now?

  • Wallingford-Swarthmore School District – Part-time kindergarten PE teacher

  • Barb’s Personal Training – Personal Trainer

  • Central Bucks Family YMCA – group exercise instructor

4. What are your future goals?

  • Get a full time job that pays benefits

5. A quick word of advice for future adapted minors or for parents looking for an adapted PE professional.

  • Network, network, network. It is critical in today’s employment environment to utilize all of your contacts to help find employment.

  • Be flexible. You may not get a job doing exactly what you want, but can be creative to develop a niche that is close to the type of job you are looking for.

  • Be patient. Things happen for a reason. You never know what will present itself over time.

Promote yourself. There is such a need for adapted PE, but people don’t know that it’s available and/or needed. Remind people that your skills are very similar to OT and PT professions, at a fraction of the cost.
